Getting my kids to eat their vegetables is hard enough most days so I welcome any help I can get. And right now the help is coming from Produce for Kids (PFK) who is working with Publix Super Markets to support the “Healthy Schools, Healthy Minds” campaign to raise money to provide salad bars to schools in the local communities.
From now until October 26, families can help their local schools each time they visit the produce section of their local Publix. Shoppers purchase sponsored fresh fruit and vegetable items, a donation will be made to the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative.
Produce for Kids is generously giving one Mamalicious Maria reader a $50 gift card to celebrate their new campaign. Want to win? Just leave me a comment telling me your favorite way to get your kids to eat fruit and vegetables. (The contest will end at midnight October 11, 2011 and the winner will be picked via random.org.)
Want more chances? You can get one extra entry for each of the following (leave a separate comment for each entry):
1. Follow me (@MariaRSmith) on twitter and tweet “I entered to win a $50 gift card from @mariarsmith & @ProduceforKids! You can to: http://bit.ly/q1JU6“

ReplyDeleteI find it easiest to get my son to eat his veggies by letting him pick them out. Then when we get home, he helps to prep them for the meal. He feels like he made his own choice and that's big at 7 yrs old LOL
ReplyDeleteI convince my 2-year-old to eat her fruits and veggies by getting her to share them with her beloved Elmo doll. Conversation at our dinner table goes something like "See? Elmo likes his fruits and veggies, you should too." I think that she likes that she's sharing with Elmo; it makes her feel like the "mommy." The clock is ticking on when she'll figure out that Elmo isn't eating his share.
ReplyDeleteMy kids love fresh fruits and vegetables but we also make a lot of fruit smoothies, fruit and veggie juices and vegetable soups and salads. :)

At 19 months, my son isn't quite old enough to get him to like anything. One day broccoli is his favorite food for weeks, and then later in the week he'll arbitrarily decide that he doesn't like it. He does the same thing with peanut bitter and jelly so I know it's not just veggies. So to make sure he gets enough, I add extra vegetables in places you wouldn't normally expect it like dicing up carrots and adding them to different sauces where you won't necessarily taste the vegetables but it makes sure he gets a healthy dose.

My kids love fruit but vegetables are harder. I found that dipping sauces have helped them be more willing to try different veggies.
